539. Chippendale Carved Mahogany Highboy
Attributed to John Goddard Newport, R. 1., XV1I1 Century
Upper body containing five drawers and has an enclosed or full hood
faced with molded S-scrolls, the space between occupied by juxtaposed
voluted moldings which support a fluted plinth upon which rests a
carved urn-and-flame finial; lower body with four drawers below which
the skirt is cut in a series of cyma-curves and carved at the centre with
a depressed fluted shell. Standing on four angular cabriole legs, the
front legs ending in claw and ball feet and carved on the knee with
acanthus scrolls and depending anthemia; plain rear legs ending in pad
feet. Drawers furnished with Chippendale brasses.

540. Sheraton Decorated and Gilded Wall Mirror
New England, circa 1805
With fluted and leaf-carved pilasters and molded pediment; the glass
frieze decorated with a frigate in full sail in an oval medallion in black,
white, and gold; similar to the decoration found on Willard banjo
clocks. Height, 56 inches; width, 33/ inches
