288 CATALOGUE OF EARLY CORINTHIAN VASES

A.

II, shape B.

Two isolated vases (shape B 1) by one hand; small
crosses and loose dot-rosettes in the field.1
Palermo, from Akrai (Judica, Antichita di Acre,
pi. 19). On mouth, tongues and circles; on base,
whirls; on handle, check. Man gesticulating on
table, flanked by horsemen; below the table, a cock.
Behind, a man running. Baron Judica, who found
the vase on his estate, relates that the mouth was
stopped with deposit; when this was removed, he
says, 'Intesi subito che esalava un grato odore ed
acutissimo'. I know of a recent case of the same
kind; in this instance, however, the vase was a
Hellenistic perfume flask.2 Copenhagen, from
Thebes (C.V.A. pi. 86, 11). Patterns and f.o. as
before. Man between horsemen; eagle.
