NOTE

The average time taken in going round the Palace
by the route given is about 1J-2 hours. The out-
lying houses, &c., including the walk there and back, take
up as follows:

r (passing the House of the
*i. The Little Palace \ Frescoes, from the Theatral

[Area) about 20 minutes.

„ , TT.,n f (from the East Bastion)

*2. Royal Villa < ,

' I about 10-15 minutes.

3. House of the Sacrificed Oxen,'
House of the Fallen Blocks,
* House of the Chancel Screen,
and *South-East House

(from the south-east stair-
way) about 10-15 minutes.

4. *South House, *Stepped Por-~| ,c .

corner)

4a. High Priests'
*Temple Tomb

5. Royal Tomb at Isopata

and "1 (from Caravanserai) about
J 30 minutes,
(from the Royal Villa) about
three-quarters of an hour
there, (or better separately
from Candia) about half an
. hour there.

Those marked with an asterisk are all very well
worth seeing.

The whole site excluding the Royal Tomb at Isopata,
which is better visited either as a separate excursion
from Candia or on one's way back there from Knossos,
takes 2-£—3\ hours, though, of course, much more might
be spent on it.

For visitors with only an hour or two at their dis-
posal one would suggest seeing as much of the Palace
as possible, omitting the upper floors on the east side
and, if possible, making the excursion 4-4 a above
mentioned.
