10. KXXI:
One blue-glazed pebble. In disturbed debris.
11. K B 15: x:
One pebble.
Almost all of these were more deeply stained on one of the flat sides, and sometimes
almost unstained on the other. The pebbles are of the right size and form to have served
as setters, and the uneven staining may indicate that the glazing was accidental, being the
result of the use of the pebbles in the glazing-ovens. The burnt places on the desert which
I suggest are the remains of ovens, approach close to the cemetery on the west and the
south. Some of the discarded setters may have been gathered up with other pebbles at
the time when the great tumuli were covered with stones and pebbles to protect the mounds
from weathering, and having been thrown on the mounds, came into the burial chambers
with the debris thrown about by the plunderers. Other setters had been gathered up with
the earth used to fill the compartments, notably at K X.
