(7) Handle-cover (?)
One object was found which appeared to be some sort of wooden handle. The fragment
of decayed wood was about 3.2 cm. long, nearly cylindrical in form, with a diameter of
2-2.5 cm. Around it a strand of blue ring-beads was wound spirally in seven turns. The
object was broken off above and below, and I assume that the whole length of the wooden
cylinder was wrapped with the strand of beads.

3. TYPES OF BEADS AND THEIR DISTRIBUTION AT KERMA
The following types of beads may be set forth:
Type
1. I. Ring-beads of blue, black, and red faience, of shell, carnelian, jasper, gold,
and silver.
2. II. Disc-beads of blue faience, shell, and speckled stone.
3. III. Ball-beads of faience, carnelian, glazed quartz, glazed crystal, amethyst,
garnet, and gold.
4. IV. Corrugated ball-beads of quartz, and faience.
5. V. Barrel-shaped beads of faience, carnelian, amethyst, serpentine (?), and
gold.
6. VI. Tubular beads of faience, beryl, carnelian, gold, and silver.
7. VII. Pendant-beads, (pear-shaped).
8. VIII. Amulet-beads.
9. Miscellaneous bead-forms.
10. Ivory beads.
These types occur in the following materials:
(a) Faience, blue: Types I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, and VIII.
(&) Faience, black: Types I, III, V, VI.
(c) Faience, red: Type I.
(d) Shell, white: Types I, II, VI.
(e) Ivory and bone: 10.
(/) Blue-glazed quartzite: Types III and IV.
(g) Blue-glazed crystal: Type III.
(Ji) Carnelian (red agate): Types II, III, V, VI, and 9.
(i) Amethyst: Types III and V.
(J) Beryl (or green stone): Types III, V, and VI.
