into four rooms: (1) south end, E-W room 5-48 x 1-97 m., unconnected with other rooms, roofed
with wooden beams resting on c.b. ledge; (2) short E-W room, 2-90 x 170 m., adjoining eastern
end of southern room on the north, stairway from east, blocked doorway to (3) in west end of
north wall; (3) N-S room, 3-12 X2-2 m., divided in two by pilaster in middle of east wall, and
perhaps also in west wall, doorway in east end of north wall leading to (4); (4) large E-W room,
5-6 x3-5 m., occupying northern end of cutting, doorway from (3) opens in embrasure in
south wall.

Floor area: (1) io-8 sq. m.
(2) 4-9 sq. m.
(3) 6-8 sq. m.
(4) 19-6 sq. m.
Total: 42-1 sq. m.
Relation of floor area to mastaba area: i/6-i.

Type II B (2). Open pit cut in gravel; wooden roof; stairway from valley side or north:
i-lxiv. Mahasnah 1: see Garstang, Mahasnah and Bet Khallaf, pl. XXXIII: see Fig. 49.
Substructure: stairway descends from north to main chamber; three subsidiary chambers on south,
each with a doorway opening into main chamber; present depth 2-5 m. (denuded).
