TOMB TYPES OF DYNASTY II

The number of graves which might be counted as nucleus graves each representing a generation

All these tombs, even those called ‘small’, are of a size larger than the tombs properly called small
which have a floor area of 0-5 to 1-5 m., most of them about 1 sq. m. If we add to these eighteen the
two to four which are presumed to have been denuded away from the western edge, the total rises to
twenty to twenty-two tombs of larger size.
Cemetery 3000 was on the next knoll to the north of Cemetery N 1500, and in my analysis of the
relations between the two cemeteries I concluded that N 3000 contained the graves of a different family
to that of N 1500, a family of lesser importance, but for the greater part contemporaneous with that
of N 1500. The tombs were on an average smaller but presented examples of wood-roofed graves
(type I B (2)) and corbel-roofed graves. The corbel-roofed tombs of larger size in N 3000 were as
follows:

DESCRIPTION OF TOMBS OF TYPE III B (2) IN CEMETERY N 3000 AND OTHER CEMETERIES

Substructure: corbel-roofed with sloping passage, main chamber, and two end chambers at north
end; doorway roofed with wood; limestone slab used to support corbel at SE corner, and another

Depth of open pit . . . 2-8 m.
Height of the c.b. mass . . 2-5 m.
