tions. The year 1015 is unjust, it should be 1515, On leaf 1 in thei border and
leaf 3 the painted arms of Abb. Egidius. A fine, unpressed copy.

Bessarion the Greek patriarch of Constantinople (1403—1472) joined the Roman
Ghurch after his attempts at re-union of the Greek and Roman Church had
failed. He is very important as translater from the Greek and introducer
of Greek studies in Italy. This book, written mainly in defence of Platonism
against the followers of Aristotle became of important influence on générations
of humanist scholars. A large splendid copy of a rare book.

containing a great number of fine large plates, exhibiting varions inventions for
the suspension of carriages, for fire-engintes, for musical instruments, a new
press for impressing coloured cloths, etc.” Holtzapffel, Turning and Mechanical
Manipulation IV, p. 18: „Besson figured three very curions lathes in which the
pôle, the archery bow, cords and weights, are ail more or less employed in pro-
ducing the reciprocal motion in the machines.” This is the first independent work
