April. On the title a large and fine woodcut of the Arms of Aragon
supported by an angel, varions coats of arms in text, and genealogical
tree with portraits of Kings and Princes in beautiful woodcuts in
inner margins and in the text throughout, some repeated, device at
end. Fine initiais. Gothic letter. 50 Ivs. (last blank). Smal folio. Half

Lyell, Early Book Illustr., p. 120 gives a reproduction of the title-page and on
p. 122 a füll description of the title-page, as well as of the device: „. . . the device
of Coci is an adaption of the Hurus’ mark (reproductions also in Haebler,
Typogr. ; Sanchez, Saragozza; and Orvenippe), but instead of the triangles in
the centre, the initiais of Coci now appear with his own motto substituted; the
Saints on each side being the same, viz. St. Roch and St. Sebastian. There are a
number of cuts in the book, mostly portraits of Kings, with scroll work extending
down the inner margin of the page. One of the most striking of these portrait
cuts appears on fol. XVIIIb, and represents Raimundus and his fiancée,
Petronilla.”
First édition of a very rare and very fine early Spanish woodcut book. A name
crossed out on title, old marginal notes on 2nd lf., a few very insign. paper
stains, binding a little loose, but a fine, large copy with very good impressions
of the cuts.
