Montagnana was a professer at Padua. He died ca. 1460. „The Consilia of which
Montagnana 'gives some 305, usually run over the patient’s physical condition
and disease, winding up with seasonable advice as to what to eat, what drugs to
take and what things to avoid. . .” (Garrison). The other tracts by M. deal with
the Paduan battis, drugs and antidotes. — The, „Consilia” of Ant. Cermisonius
of Padua cont. many therapeutic recommendations. — The work by Caballo, a
physician at Brescia who lived ca. 1500 treats on the theriac, a famous antidote.

Cushing M 531. The Med. Surgeon Cat. does not know this ed.; Ebert only knows
a later one. R. Morton, 1637/98, famous physician, epidemiologist and chaplain
of the New College at Oxford. This work, based upon his own clinical expérience
is an excellent collection of English treatises. The „Phthisiologia” „sums up the
knowledge of his time” (Garrison).
In it he States as th'e first that pulmonary consumption is always caused by
small knots, the tubercles. He knew already pulmonary syphilis. (Comp. Proksch
III, 421.) His treatise over fevers is illustrated by descriptions of the many
épidémies in London from 1668/72. For malaria he recommends the use of
Quinquina (which Sydenham did as well) ; as one of the first he found, that the
cause of it was the inhaling in swampy districts. Binding somewhat worn,
otherwise very good copy w. ownership entry of Joa. Pauzel.
