PROPER POSITION FOR THE HORIZONTAL LINE.

The proper position of the horizontal line will depend
upon the nature of the view to be represented. Hence the
sketcher must consider—

First, whether he himself and the objects he is about to
represent, are on level ground or nearly so.

If the view be on a plane nearly level, the horizontal
line may be drawn at about one-fifth, or one-fourth, of the
height of that space of his paper which is intended for the
picture (Fig. 4).
