A further order respedling tunerals appears in the minutes of April
1678, which direits “ that in future 40d. ihalbe taken for all funeralls

members of this company, which is to be distributed amongst the Comp 5

each of them. The Maiter Wardens & Clerk to have the same service
as the reit of the gueifs have, and their successors'after them.”

In the inventory of the goods of the Ironmongers J’ Company in 1556,
is described :

“ A ihuet of vestemetts of Clothe of Gold.”

“ A herse cloth of Clothe of gold in a box”

“ Another of black worsted w th a wyght cros ofbrygges satten”

“ A supar altar of Stone.”

And in the Ironmongers’ book it is itated under the date of 1531, that
“ Mr. John Guyva gave a herse-cloth richly embroydered.” The in-
scription itill remaining on the Pall itself, which is much defaced, appears
to read as follows : t . . . of John Gyua. late. Iremongr. of. London
and Eliabeth. hys. wyffe. wythe whos. good. thys Cloth. was made Ü), tf).

Our engraving is copied from the top of the Pall, which is made of
rich crimson embossed velvet embroidered with gold. The head, foot,
and iides are now formed of black velvet, on which a portion of the old
cmbroideries have been sewn, the reit having most probably been deitroy-
ed on account of their worn and dilapidated condition.

For the above particulars we are indebted to the kindness of John
Nicholls, Esq. a member of the court of the Ironmongers’ Company.
