19. A Visit to the Nursery. A lady, dressed in a red velvet
neglige and a white satin petticoat, sitting with a swaddled
infant on her knees ; before her is a cradle, and behind her a
gentleman, making his obeisance to another lady, who has just
entered, and for whom a servant is placing a chair; an old
woman (the nurse) is sitting behind the cradle, looking atten-
tively on ; and behind the lady is a table, covered with a Turkey
carpet, on which are a bason and ewer of beautiful workmanship.

20. The Letter Writer. A young gentleman, elegantly
habited in a black silk dress, relieved by a broad white collar,
seated at a table, covered with a rich Turkey carpet, writing a
letter; a silver inkstand and a wafer stamp are on the table. A
picture of cattle, in a richly carved frame, hangs against the
wall, and the ssoor is composed of black and white marble.
The room is brightly illumined by a window, one casement of
wdiich is open. Engraved by Burnett.
