269- A Wild and Mountainous Scene. The centre of the
view is divided by a cascade, rolling rapidly through a chasm
of some rocks towards the front. A road winds round the base
of a mountain on the left, and descends obliquely to the
front ground, where a traveller in a red jacket, mounted on
a mule, and another on foot by his side, are advancing into
the country ; near them is a female, seated by the road side,
occupied with a distaff. Many other persons with cattle are
dispersed over the road. The effect of evening prevails.

yellowish coloured body, and a white face, while a woman
milks her; both the figures are on the farther side of the
animal. A dog is near them, and two mules and an ass are
visible in the back-ground.
