51. Cottages on the Bank of a River. The composition of
this excellent little picture is formed of a river, extending
along the whole of the front, bounded by a sedgy bank, on
which is a clump of trees, growing amidst bushes, and partly
concealing a cottage, on the farther side of which is a hay-
stack ; in front of the latter is a man in a boat. The roof of
a second cottage is perceptible, among trees, on the left, and a
church is seen in the distance. Engraved by Weibrod, in the
Le Brun Gallery, and etched anonymous.

52. Companion. The Corn Field. A sedgy pool, with a rich
cluster of bushes, flags, and a decayed tree on the right, and an
old oak otowino- on its bank, near the middle of the scene. A
corn field extends along; the second distance, which is bounded
by bushy trees, above a clump of which rises the steeple of a
church. A single peasant is seen on the farther side of the
bank, on the left. These are choice and brilliant productions
of the master. Engraved in the Le Brun Gallery, and etched.

river, and surrounded by trees, amongst which may be dis-
tinguished the oak, willow, and elder; another house, amid
trees, is seen in the distance.
