204 JOHN AND ANDREW BOTH.
The river ssows obliquely to the right, and from hence the
eye looks to the distant hills, diversified with trees and build-
ings. The figures which animate the scene, consist of the
artist, represented sitting on the bank of the river, drawing,
while a shepherd stands by his side, apparently conversing
with him ; and two men, a cow, and a laden ass, are on the
left. A fine summer’s evening sun gilds the scene.
