was sold in the collection of M. Nieuhoff, Amsterdam, in 1777, for
1600/m, 1447.

166. A View off the Shore, looking seaward, represented
under the aspect of hazy weather, and an overcast sky, por-
tending abundance of rain. On the right are two fishing boats,
lying near shore, and a sailor standing up to his knees in water
with a rope in his hand. A small vessel is in the centre,
approaching the former two boats. A frigate and other ships
are seen in the distance on the left.

167. A View on a River, represented under the effect of
a stiff breeze, accompanied by the appearance of heavy squalls
of rain. On the left is seen a Dutch coaster, the sailors in
which are lowering the peak of the main-sail, to prevent her
from running foul of a smack, which is approaching at full
sail. A row-boat containing four men is on the opposite side
and front, and a few small vessels are perceptible through the
haze in the distance.
