2317. Front of a sarcophagus, with, figures of winged Cupids,
playing with armour. In the centre two Cupids hold up
between them a shield,
on which the epitaph is
inscribed. Below the
shield are two cornu-
copias, with fruit, etc.
Next on the left are two
Cupids, who support
between them a cuirass.
At the left end, a Cupid
advances holding a spear
with both hands.

Next on the right to
the central group is h
Cupid moving to the
ri ght holding a sheathed
sword. On the right are
two Cupids holding be-
tween them a crested
helmet which rests on a
cippus. All the Cupids
have their hair tied in
plaits passing over the
top of the head, and
each wears a small
chlamys, fastened on
the breast with a
buckle.

The shield is in-
