Remarks on the preceding Table.

Of the first seventeen days in the month of Fe-
bruary, the 15th was the hottest, and the 6th was
the least warm. On the 15th the thermometer at
noon was at 170! ; on the 6th at noon it was at
io°f, after having been at 8°| in the morning.
On this day the wind blew a strong gale from the
west, and it had rained incessantly for two days.
On the 15th, the day of the greatest heat, the
wind blew from 'the south-south-east and south-
east, and the weather was fine. The difference
of heat between these two days was 70, and the
mean term of heat was 140.

During these seventeen days the wind was very
variable; yet it blew more frequently from the
westward, than from any other quarter. The
weather was very bad, and the rain almost con-
