and it is obvious, how much more likely we are to establish institutions
adapted to such a purpose, than the people themselves, whose manners
are to be ameliorated; hut this is a subject which does not fall within
the limits of a work of this description: I shall, therefore, .content
myself with expressing my earnest wishes for the success of the great
cause in which the Greeks are engaged, and my hope that, under a free and
enlightened government, Olympia and Elis may recover some portion of
their former prosperity.
