Gaigher, whose portrait of His Holi-
ness Pope Benedict XV. is here repro-
duced, qualified and practised as a medical

man ere he yielded to early inclinations and
gave himself to art. He studied for two
years at Bushey under Herkomer, who
thought highly of his talent. s> 0
CRACOW.—The stained glass window
illustrated opposite was designed by
the Polish artist, Witold Rzegocinski, for
the Faculty of Physics in Cracow Uni-
versity, and the artist has found an
appropriate motive for his design in Slav
mythology. He was one of the founders of
the Society of " Independants" who,
with Malc2;ewski and Kowalski as their
leaders, set out to further the develop-
ment of a national art, and held their first
exhibition some ten years ago. 0 0
