of pleasing form can be cast in great numbers without additional expense.
A number of suggestions for cast-iron rainwater heads are given on page
41, while other details suitable for cottages are the porches on page 12,
and the iron rainwater cisterns on page 42.
The practical equipment and decoration of the interiors of houses provide
the means for simple and delightful effects. The drawings of cottage in-
teriors given here, and showing suitable arrangements for small dwellings,
need little explanation. A design for a living-room, applicable to the
Type I class of house (page 1 8) and fitted with a cooking-range, is given
on page 43. The drawing of the parlour, appearing on page 45, shows
the use of a corner fireplace such as is included in the plan at the top of
page 22. A convenient scullery sink, with draining boards and plate-rack
in workable positions, is illustrated by the design on page 52, and has
been made by the Local Government Board. Cupboards, drawers, and
similar wooden fittings, can be applied with great advantage to every
cottage. When they are included in the building contract they cost far
less than movable furniture. Every living-room should have a fitted
