This pottery was started in connection with the St. Ives Handicraft Guild in I 92 1,
by Mr. Bernard Leach, an English artist, who spent twelve years in China and Japan
studying the traditions and craft and practising as a potter and etcher.
In answer to repeated enquiries Mr. Leach has begun to make and decorate tiles ot
which the above are samples. During the past year specimens of Leach pottery
work have been acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum, The National Museum
of Wales, The Manchester Corporation Art Gallery and other collections.
