scratched on the face. The surface is rough. Height of letters 81/3-i2 cm.
Αττρο ετ(ών) κζ.
The name is possibly the equivalent of the Arabic Atir, but the form is not found
elsewhere. The feminine form Ατρη, which occurs in nos. 283 and 479, is probably
the Arabic 'Atr.

462. Stele. Stele broken into two fragments, found in the same group of build-
ings. Frag, a was found on the ground in the courtyard, frag, b in the staircase
above. Height of frag, a 25—35 cm.; height of frag, b from wall to the top of the slab
38-46 cm.; width 30 cm. Height of letters 6-8 cm.
Ναουαρος Σαυοα^ου.
i. e. Nawar, (soil) of Sawad.
We have found no other instance of Ναουαρος. Σαυοαό'ος is the same as Σεουαίος
in no. 297; see also Σαυουιζά[α]νης, M.S.M. p. 251, no. 29, and Σαυαάανου Wad. 2537a.

463. Stele. Found in the same group of buildings. The stone lay in the debris
in the northwest room. Height 1.18 m.; width 25—28 cm. The upper part of the face
is fairly well finished, the lower part is rough. Height of letters 7—11 cm.
Ζεό'αλας Ου^ου.
i. e. Zaid-allaf (son) of Hudf).
The name Ζεό'αλας is a compound similar to Θαφεαλλας, Αβο'αλλας et cet. Ζα«λ>ς
occurs in P.E.F. 1895, p. 348, no. 169 and the form Ζεό'ος in our no. 220. We have
found no other instance of Ουό'ος.
464. Stele. Found in the same group of buildings. The stone lay in debris in
the room immediately west of that in which no. 463 was found. Height i.221/2m.;
width 27^—32 cm. The upper part of the face is fairly well finished, the lower part
