Line 4: VALERIANAE GALLIANAE et seq., Wad.
Line OMNA, Wad.
On M. Aelius Aurelius Theo see no. 524. The restoration of the end of 1. 5,
proposed by Waddington and ultimately approved by Mommsen (cf. C.I.L. hi Addit.
p. 969), is undoubtedly correct, although 11 is on the stone.
534. Fragment. Found in the northeastern part of the city, in the entrance
leading to a group of modern buildings near the northwestern corner of the “Basilica”.
Length 41-50 cm.; height 28 cm. Height of letters 7 cm.
535. Fragment. Found in the courtyard of a house north of the “Basilica”.

On account of the proximity of these two fragments, as well as the similarity of
the letters, we believe that they originally were parts of one inscription carved on
several blocks, like no. 527. In 534 probably Calp]urnio or Fjurnio, as above in no. 17, or
some such name is to be read. In 535 the restorations have been made on the basis
of frequent instances of promotion to centurio from aqtiilifer, whose rank was about
equal to that of imaginifer \ see v. Domaszewski, Rangordnung d. rom. Hceres, Bonn.
Jahrb. cxvn (1908), pp. 41 and 43.
536. Block. Found in the northeastern part of the city in a modern house
east of the “Basilica”. The stone is over the doorway which leads from the courtyard
into the house. Length 67 cm.; height 44 cm. The face is very much worn, and
the letters in the centre are obliterated. The accompanying drawing was made from
a squeeze, and many of the letters are uncertain. Below the inscription is a sort of
band formed by deeply incised lines. The band contained some ornamental design,
which has been obliterated. Height of letters 21/3-3,/2 cm.
