5811. Stele. Found in the eastern part of the city about 200 metres west of
the so-called “East Arch.” The slab is embedded in the pavement of the courtyard
of the house on the south side of the street which runs from the West Gate of the
city to the “East Arch.” Height 43 cm.; width 30 cm. Height of letters 6-7 cm.

Οαζιμος Αυνουνου.
Οαζιμος does not occur elsewhere, but the form, if the reading be correct, may
represent some such Arabic name as Wazim or Wazlm. However, it is more likely
that we should read Μαξιρ,ος. Αυυουνος is an error for Ανουνος, Arabic Hanun, or Α'»ου'>ος,
Hannun. Ανουνος occurs frequently, e. g. Wad. 2153a, 2162a, 2375.

i. e. Nukaidh, {son} oj Waslkat.
We have found no other instance of in Greek inscriptions. Ουασειχαθου
occurs in the form Οασιχαίου in the inscription on the east side of the temple at
Dum&r; see Briinnow P.A. iii, pp. 183 and 207, no. 36, and Div. IV, a, no. 58,
of these Publications. Waddington (no. 2562^) had restored the name θ[α]σ[αι]0ου.
583. Fragment. Built into a wall in the southeastern part of the city. The
stone faces north and is near a doorway in the wall. Length 83 cm.; height 22 cm.
Height of letters 14 cm. Copied by Mr. Butler.

584. Sarcophagus. Found in the southeastern part of the city, on the west side
of the large reservoir (the Birket il-Hadjdf), near its northwest corner. The sarco-
phagus was partly buried in the ground. The inscription is inclosed by a dovetailed
