653. Blocks. Built into the walls of the Tychaion. Some of the blocks, at
least, are not in situ, but owe their present positions to the rebuilding of the facade.
The inscription, with slight variations in wording, was executed four times, apparently
under each of the candelabra, the dedication of which it records. Block a is in the
north wall of the Tychaion beside the east corner-pilaster. Width 70 cm.; height
31 cm. Block b is in the north wall beside the west corner-pilaster. Width at the
top 76 cm., at the bottom 60 cm.; height 63 cm. Blocks c 1 and c 2 are in the
north wall, c 1 immediately at the left of the west side-door, and under the right
end of no. 652, c 2 at the right of the east side-door, in the lowest course of the
wall. Height of c 1 53 cm., of the inscription 15 cm.; maximum width of the inscription
52 cm. Width of c 2 53 cm.; height 35 cm. Block d i is in the west wall, about
nine feet above the ground, and lying on its left side; d 2 is immediately under c 1.
Height of d 1 74 cm.; width 50 cm. Height of the inscription on d 2 15 cm., of the
space above, 12 cm. Height of letters 2-4 cm. Blocks a, b, c i, and d 2 were copied
by Butler, Blocks c 2 and d i by Magie in 1909.
