The date was read by Waddington as έτους [τ]καζ . . .; the addition tz [tWiZTt]c5v(og)
has been suggested by Professor Brunnow in P. A. hi, p. 344. However, our copy
shows the stroke over Y alone, and the reading υκαζ is also open to the objection that
the following iota cannot be accounted for. The restoration of ίνό'ίκτίώυος here is very
difficult, and 505 a. d. corresponded with the fourteenth indiction, not the tenth. Moreover,
Ιοτεραθη does not occur as a name, whereas Οτεραθη is found in V. A. S. p. 203, no. 89
and as ΟτηραΘ>? in Wad. 2151 ; cf. Div. iv, Nab. Inscrs. no. 58. We believe, therefore,
that the date is έτους uz, and that the three following letters are to be read as καέ.
The second name in 1. 3 is probably ΜεγοαΘί'α, a feminine form of ΜεγέΘιος;
see no. 547. It is not clear whether she was the wife of only one of the deceased
brothers, or of both of them in succession. We are unable to explain the form γυν/?κι
as other than an erroneous nominative.
726. Block. 359 a. d. Built into the wall above the entrance of a modern
weli north of the village. Length 79 cm.; height 39 cm. The upper right corner is
broken. The inscription is within a raised dovetailed frame. Length of the frame
42 cm.; height 32 cm. Height of letters ι3Λ—21/3 cm.

Here lies Amat, son of Taim, dearest of all to me; (his) father and Thabyat, his
lady mother, built a tomb, having completed (/flits') a great work, the fame of which
shall never die. In the year 234. Good fortune (be thine), mother. (359 a. d.)
