dovecote was built.

Our explanation of των Αμ,ταρης is founded on των ΒενναΘτ?;, Wad. 2339 and Μαςήζου
Αρι(μ.α)θης, A. A. E. S. hi 387 and 389, where we have apparently the genitive of a
feminine tribal or family name; examples in which the article is followed by a genitive
masculine are listed under no. 160. MM. Dussaud and Macler, M.S.M. p. 209, compare
Αμταρης with Safa'itic "Ό0Ν, V.A.S. p. 76, no. 151, where, however, the reading is
doubtful. The name is rather to be compared with Arabic Matar.

The inscription is on the inside of the cap of a pier which forms one of the supports
of the easternmost standing arch. Length of pier at top 91 cm., at base 75 cm.

The copy of MM. Dussaud and Macler shows a vestige of the first letter as
follows: : AIOC (restored by them as [Σ]αίος). The name Μαϊος, however, is well estab-
lished; see C.I.G. 5861; C. I. L. in 1519; 7941. Αβειβος is for Habib.
