that Mr. Premchundwas "essentially a
spiritual being; and so simple and
elemental in his nature that he might
have passed for a spirit but for his dutiful
and devout responsibility towards the
Unknown Power that works through-
out the world for Righteousness.
Through prosperity he lived the same
simple life." He was "the greatest
benefactor Bombay ever knew, the bravest
and the best of men and the most fascinat-
ing character of Western India" in the
palmy days of 1864-5.
