Particulars.
the Fossati; several cubes are missing and several needed strengthening.
In consequence of this, the right circle and inscription are whiter than
the almost untouched left.

Letters: average height, 0’079 m.; drawn in the darkest blue tessellae
such as are used in the robes, among them tessellae which are green,
light blue, brown, and garnet. There are no black or white tessellae
in the panel. The tessellae stand prominently from the plaster setting.
The letters are not outlined.
The lettering of Justinian’s inscription is on the whole shorter and
slightly less heavy than that of Constantine’s. The height of the largest
letters in the former: the first (I) and the tenth (N) are 0*09 and
0-086 m., respectively. The height of the largest letters in Constantine’s
inscription: the first (K) and the thirty-third (Y) are 0’122 and 0’105 m.,
respectively.
The thirty-four letters of Constantine’s inscription are in the following
condition:
