lion with them to Europe, and the men'of
war refusing to let it come on-board, it was
thrown into the sea.
Of all their horses, &c. eighty only and
one camel were taken to Trance. The officers
had die privilege of selling them ; but here
it is observed, the Egyptian horse is. but of
little value, and the breed of Arabia Felix
very hard to procure, it being there neces-
sary to have its genealogy certified by the
Sheriff of Mecca, as a real Yemen ; the price
of each hoi;se being from five to eight hunt
deed pounds. In fact, these genuine Ara-
bians were so scarce, that not more than two
or three were seen all the while the French
were in Egypt.
Sir R. Wilson contends that the baggage
o o O
of the French was enormous, and that some
of the articles wdre not private property ;
for- instance, the press and fount of letters,
the bridles of the horses, the Mameluke bits,
&c. though, about such comparative trifles,
.General Hutchinson did not'choose to enter
into, any dispute. . .
While the British generad went on-board
.Lord Keith’s ship off Alexandria, for the
benefit of the sea-air, the difference of climate
between that place and Cairo was'most sen-
sibly experienced for the best; the tempera-
ture . was reduced twelve degrees, and the
sea-breezes made it still more refreshing. .
In the mean-while, the blockading-army,
