Remarks.—In the Sinhalese version of this work, entitled Madhurarthaprakasani, by Sarapapkara
Thera, it is stated that this work was composed by Upatissa Thera, at the request of Dangistra Naga
(Datha Naga?) Thera, but nothing is mentioned as to when the author flourished. The author himself
states in the preface that his work is a translation from a Sinhalese history of the Bodhi tree composed by
ancient historians. The Sinhalese work referred to is not extant now, the two existing Siphalese
versions being translations from the Pali Bodhivapsa.

vapsa, which was composed by Siphalese poets in the 9th year of the reign of Kirtisri Meghawarna,
who reigned between A.D. 301 and 330, when the Dalada relic was brought to Ceylon from Kalipga.
