Sales and stock catalogues
In addition to the auction catalogues available online in the context of German Sales, the offering also includes sales and stock catalogues. These document the holdings and sales exhibitions of individual galleries, antiquarian bookshops and art dealers, completing the picture of the art market in Germany, Austria and Switzerland up to around 1950. The aim is to identify as many of these publications as possible, catalogue them bibliographically, evaluate their content and quantity, digitise them and make them freely accessible online. The goal is to consolidate these sources and the elusive bits of information, which are scattered across many collections, to depict the art market and collecting activities of the time as comprehensively as possible—especially with regard to provenance research efforts—and to make them accessible to a broad research community.
