Supplementary projects

The concluding components of the project include scholarly exchange with international specialists in the history of the art trade, as well as collecting, who deal with questions concerned with the aesthetics, reception and criticism of art during the National Socialist period.

The Forschungsstelle »Entartete Kunst« (Kunsthistorisches Seminar, Universität Hamburg) and the Getty Research Institute (Project for the Study of Collecting and Provenance) share the goal of providing an in-depth analysis of the data produced by the digitization project »German Sales 1930-1945«. To this end, the applicants have planned a two session program on Markets and Power: The German Art Trade in the »Third Reich«, which will specifically target emerging scholars. During an initial meeting at the Warburg House, University of Hamburg, a smaller circle of young researchers shall determine the essential research questions of the project. In the following months, extended papers will be prepared and consequently presented at a public conference hosted by the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles. These contributions shall be discussed by a group of established scholars, also invited to join the conference. The results of the conference will be published bilingually in book form with the cooperation of the Akademie Verlag, Berlin, and Getty Publications, Los Angeles, and will appear in the series »Schriften des Internationalen Warburg-Kollegs«.
