Museum Foundation of Post and Telecommunications

The Museumsstiftung Post und Telekommunikation (Museum Foundation of Post and Telecommunications) was founded in 1995 as part of the privatization of the German postal service. The foundation is devoted to the themes of communication and media. Through its three museums in Berlin, Frankfurt, and Nuremberg, as well as its extensive collections, the foundation offers a wide-ranging educational program that fosters dialogue about the past, present, and future of communication.

The foundation's historical roots trace back to the 19th century, specifically to the establishment of the Reichspostmuseum (Imperial Postal Museum) in Berlin in 1872 and the Königlich Bayerisches Verkehrsmuseum (Royal Bavarian Transport Museum) in Nuremberg in 1901. Over the years, additional regional museums and collections emerged in cities such as Stuttgart, Koblenz, and Hamburg, though these no longer exist today.

Currently, the museum foundation operates three dedicated collection sites: Berlin-Tempelhof, Heusenstamm near Frankfurt, and the Philatelic Archive in Bonn. With a collection exceeding 11 million objects, it manages one of the world's most extensive archives on the history of communication and media.
