Städtisches Museum Göttingen
The Städtische Museum Göttingen is one of the oldest museums of urban and cultural history in Lower Saxony. Its extensive collections cover the period from the early Middle Ages to the present day. Paintings, works on paper, coins and medals, scientific instruments, historical books, textiles and furniture, as well as other examples of arts and crafts and everyday culture, make up the collection of around 150,000 objects. Particularly noteworthy are the important historical photo archive with around 60,000 individual items, the church art collection and the collection of objects relating to the history of the University of Göttingen. The Judaica collection, with its unique artefacts, is of national importance. The museum is currently undergoing a transformation process to become a modern municipal museum that strives for increased social relevance and a productive exchange with all groups of Göttingen's urban population.
