Heidelberg University: Inventory of the Collection of the Institute of Pathology
The collection of the Institute of Pathology at the University of Heidelberg has been documented since 1924. However, it is possible that individual objects were taken from the Institute of Anatomy when the Institute of Pathology was newly founded in 1866. Today, the collection comprises around 1,200 objects, about 200 of which are on display in the INF 220/221 lecture hall building at the university.
The collection of the Institute of Pathology shows disease patterns and malformations from all organ groups of the human body. These are, for example, wet preparations of the heart, the lungs, digestive and reproductive organs as well as the brain. All organs show pathological changes such as inflammations, tumours or ulcers. The oldest exhibits were prepared in the 1920s, and further specimens were added to the collection until the 1990s.
