It will be noticed that the site of the Sanctuary is considerably
lower than that of the Grand Hall, and consequently of the first great
area. This difference in level, and also the difference in colossal propor-
tions which marks them, justify the conclusion that this section of the
buildingis of earlier date than that comprising the last two.
