The inscribed Roman altar which, at my friend Mr. Neilson's request, I
shall describe in the following paragraphs, was ploughed up in 1895 close to
the Roman fort at Barr Hill, at a distance of some 240 yards north-east of
the gateway through its eastern rampart, and between the Vallum of Pius
