the Bologna Academy, with an article32 on Oxyrhynchus Pap. 1039, an
acknowledgment of a deposit of a sum of money, to be repaid to the
bearer of the acknowledgment (which thus became a negotiable
instrument).

The study of papyrus palaeography is provided for by several of the
publications above mentioned, which contain facsimiles. In addition, the
latest part of the New Palaeographical Society's facsimiles33 includes three
plates of papyri recently acquired by the British Museum: one an official
document of some date between a.d. 91 and 96; the second, a group of
documents of a.d. 182, relating to a suit at law; and the third, a post-
Byzantine papyrus of a.d. 647 (probably), containing the settlement of a
controversy regarding an inheritance.

And so the year's chronicle closes, still awaiting the revelation which is
to come from Saxony.
