XVIe SIÈCLE. — menuiserie française. BOISERIE, — FRAGMENT DE CLOTURE EN BOIS,
(FRANÇOIS 1".) A M- RÉCAPPÉ.
Malheureusement cette clôture du xvie siècle est incomplète, et
tout le monde remarquera l'absence de la corniche qui devrait la
terminer. Malgré cela nous la reproduisons, non comme un mo-
dèle à suivre servilement, mais comme parti pris général à
imiter.
Il est à remarquer que les colonnettes de la partie supérieure
sont très-bombées pour leur conserver l'aspect, le caractère de
balustre, nécessaire, il nous semble, dans une œuvre de ce genre.
La flg. 1742 montre la coupe de cette boiserie.

This enclosure of the xvith. century is unhappily incomplète,
and everybody will perceive the absence of the cornice which
ought to crown it. Notwithstanding we reproduce the object,
not as a model to be servilely copied, but as an ensemble to
fruitfully imitate.
It is to be noted the columns of the upper part are very
convex, in order to maintain thereto the look and character of
balusters which, in our opinion, are necessary to a wood-worlc
of that kind. Fig. 1742 shows the section of the object.
