n'aient eu l'occasion de visi-
ter l'hôtel de Cluny converti
aujourd'hui en musée d'anti-
quités, et de remarquer dans

forgé que nous publions.

Cet édicule n'est pas un des
plus beaux ni des plus riches
qu'ait produits le xve siècle,
mais il a le bonheur d'être
parfaitement conservé et d'of-
frir en outre, dans sa simplicité
relative, une sorte de complé-
ment artistique au somptueux
hôtel de Cluny. Il est placé
dans un angle de la cour,
comme un spécimen heureux
des merveilles que l'on va con-
templer en franchissant le seuil
du musée.

La margelle est, comme tou-
jours, en pierre; mais toute
l'armature est en fer forgé.
L'ampleur des formes est le
caractère principal de cette
ferronnerie composée de trois
tiges se joignant au centre en
formant un épi au sommet et
un culot à la base où s'adapte
une poulie de bois. Disons en
passant que celle-ci est trop
rustique pour une pareille
œuvre.

ques, have not perceived in

Tbat little fabric is neither
the finest nor the richest pro-
duced by the xvth. century;
but it lias the luck of being in
a perfect state of préservation,
and offers besides in its rela-
tive simplicity somewhat of an
artistic complément to the
somptuous hall of Cluny. It
stands in a corner of the yard
as a bappy spécimen of the
marvels which one is going
to admire after crossing the
threshold of the muséum.

The kirb, as usual every-
where, is of stone; but ail the
other parts are in wrought
iron. The ampleness of form
is the main feature of that iron
work composed of three rods
which meet on the centre and
bero form a tuft at the top and
a bracket at the basis whereto
fits a wooden pulley. Let us
add parenthetically that the
latter is a rathor rustic con-
trivance for such a pièce of
work.
