Le fragment, d'étoffe déposé au musée de Cluny et qui nous
a servi de modèle pour cette planche n'est pas considérable ;
ses dimensions ne peuvent guère en indiquer l'usage : on peut
supposer toutefois que ce tissu provient d'anciens vêtements
sacerdotaux. Les ornements sont d'un goût exquis et légère-
ment en relief sur le fond. Ils sont réguliers et corrects et sont
nue exception dans les ornements de cette nature et de cette,
époque.

The fragment ofcloth, to be seen in the Cluny muséum and
whereof our actual plate i9 a full-size reproduction, is inconsi-
derable : indeed, its dimensions rather fai) to give us a clue to
the use of the whole fabric ; still vve may surmise that it «as o(
old a portion of sacerdotal raiment. Its ornamçnts are exquisite
and slightly in relief on the ground. They possess correctness
and chasteness, and stand an exception in the ornameutatiou of
this kind and of tins epoch.
