Les anciens maîtres sont toujours bons à consulter, et cette
gravure en fac-similé de Lucas de Cranach, montre avec quelle
science, et on peut dire avec quelle habileté, on disposait autre-
fois les hachures servant à obtenir le modelé.—C'est en grande
partie pour ce motif que nous reproduisons ce portrait où tout
semble vrai et fidèle.

It is always profitable to consult the old masters, and this
fac-similé of an engraving of Lucas Von Cranach shows the
science, we might even say the cleverness, displayed in the dis-
position of the hatchings of the modelling.
It is mostly for this reason lhat we reproduce this portrait so
full of truth and life.
