Albert Durer sculptait aussà parfois, et nous ne serions pas trop
surpris que ce portrait, taillé, semble-t-il, à coup de canif aves
une rare habileté, ne sortît de ses mains.
Le costume est plein de caractère, et notre gravure rend
assez exactement le fouillis accentué des plis et lo relief des
parures. Lo bois nous a paru être du poirier noirci par lo
temps.

Albrecht Durer not only painted, but as well sculptured, now and
tiieil, _ vVe would not be oversurprised if this portrait executed,
one might suppose, with a penknife and with remarkable skill,
were Uis own work. The costume is very characteristic, and oui-
plate reproduces very fairly the deep sculpturing of tlic folds and
tlie great relief of the ornaments, The wood seems to be peartree
darkened by old âge.
