progreffive improvements were at length car-
ried to excellence.

PROPORTIONS OF THE HEAD AND ITS PARTS.
The head is in height four meafures of the

nose.

The eve is by the iris divided into three
parts, of which the iris itfelf is the center di-
vifion, and gives the proper opening of the eye.

The nose is in width the length of an eye.

The nostril is in heighth one third the
width of the nofe.

The mouth is in width about one eye and
a quarter ; in profile about half its width.

The ears are full one fourth part of the
height of the head, in width half their height.
