Ladies and Gentlemen,
TN purfuing our remarks on that divifion of
our fubject which now requefts your at-
tention, I flatter myfelf you will receive as
well entertainment as improvement of which
perhaps you will be more fenfible, if you re-
collect the remarks you cannot but have made
on many fimilar articles to thofe we fliall in-
troduce: and I more readily requeft the
recollection of your former fentiments, be-
caufe the peculiar charafter of fome perfons
cannot eafily be miftaken, but it will im-
prefs the mind of every obferver. Did you
never diflike a perfon from his appearance,
without any other reafon ? Did you never
meet the man in whom you imagined you faw
not only a deficiency of manners, but of fenfe
or of morals, in whofe vacancy of countenance
you fancied you traced the figns of a corref-
pondent vacancy of thought and intellect ?
