is, since it is crowded with abundant objects
which may contribute to such deception ? It is

with its various parts. I know this has been
accounted for by supposing its arcades are too
high 3 perhaps, however, both reasons may
unite.
After having disapproved too much orna-
ment on the outside of buildings, I shall indi-
cate where, in my opinion, ornament may be
very suitably employed; and that too without
fear that its delicacy fliould be overlooked.
I mean in t'nose apartments which in molt, I
might say in every, capacious strudture, are
appropriated to festivity and hilarity: here let
the ornaments also be festive and hilarious;
whatever may attrafl or delight the eye, what-
ever may diversify the scene, shall here reign
uncontrolled. For though a visitant would
be aukwardly employed in examining the ex-
terior ornaments of a strudture, while he was
expedted by its owner; yet in the drawing-room,
or the cabinet, what forbids his enjoying the
delicacy of the Artist’s workmanship, the finish-
ing and propriety of his embellishments, or
the finking effedt of his compositions ? Here
