this muft be put in by little and little, for feair of breaking the
veffel by the fermentation which they make with the aqua-

crocus martis calcined with calcined tin, known among the
glafs-men; of zaffer defcribed and cinnabar, each half an ounce;
powdering them all very well, putting them in by little and
little, as before ; then flop the matrafs.

and diflblve in it two ounces of fal armoniac ; then add an ounce
of fmall leaves of copper calcined, half an ounce of fcales of cop-
per thrice calcined, half an ounce of manganefe of Piedmont pre-
pared, and half an ounce of fcales of iron, which fall from the
fmith's anvil, the whole being reduced to a fine powder ; which
throw in by little and little as before, then flop it well.
9. Put another pound of aqua-fortis into another glafs bodv,
and add to it two ounces of fal armoniac : the diffolution bein«-
made, put to it half an ounce of red lead, by little and little,
and one ounce of fcales of copper, half an ounce of crude anti-
mony, and as much caput mortuum of vitriol purified, all being
reduced to a fine powder; then flop the matrafs.
10. Put another pound of aqua-fortis into another glafs ma-
trafs, with two ounces of fal armoniac ; add to this water orpi-
rnent, white arfenic, and painters lake of each half an ounce ;
let the whole be finely powdered, put them into a matrafs by
little and little as before, and flop it up well.
It has not been repeated at each operation, that you mufl fet
your matrafs on an afli furnace over a gentle heat, or in a warm
bath,
